I've dabbled in writing poetry on occasion when the mood strikes me. Most of my poetry focuses on either nature or the exploration of injustice in our current system.
A lot of my poetry is written when I am angry or frustrated by something and this one is no exception. I was working through despair I was feeling around participating in the system that grinds us up and spits us out without a second thought. It has kind of a protest song feel and I think singing the refrain adds something to the experience.
Wrote this years ago to express some very specific feelings about the expectation of courtesy and empathy from people who have not done anything to merit those emotions. I was pretty angry when I wrote it, but I stand by the exploration of those feelings.
A very short poem that I was ecstatic to have the chance to read for the Voice of Dog's Pride Months this year. I think I nailed expressing the complex emotion I was trying to get across and hope that you enjoy it too.
When I heard the the Voice of Dog podcast was planning on doing a Poetry Themed month, I knew I had to try and submit something. "Forest" is probably one of the more personal pieces of writing I've done as it was written as I was processing my late Nana's passing. I'm happy that I can share those complex feelings with more people and hope that it can provide comfort to others who may be in a similar position.
About two months ago, I had about as much as I could stand and when that happens I often get the urge to write poetry. I didn't expect that particular muse to burn as brightly as it did as I now have a collection of 9 poems all dealing with office life, burnout, and the ludicrous expectations of meeting unrealistic deadlines. Going to try and use this small book as practice for self-publishing and hope to share more soon!
